St. Julians: Grand Homes, Apartments and Real Estate Guide

The Location

St Julian’s is one of the most cosmopolitan destinations anywhere in Malta.

Located just along the promenade from Sliema, this busy town actually started life as a sleepy fishing village. And, while a number of pretty fishing boats can still be spotted bobbing in the bay here, St Julian’s atmosphere is now completely changed – it is transformed into a buzzing centre for business, leisure and entertainment.

The town is excellently located as a base in Malta – found around 20 minutes’ drive from Malta International Airport and the capital Valletta. It has become a popular choice for business professionals as many companies now choose to do business in St Julian’s. However, it is equally popular for couples, families and those retiring to the island because it promises excellent leisure facilities, including for wining and dining.

The Lifestyle

St Julian’s promises a mix of all the best elements of Mediterranean living.

Built around Spinola Bay, it is renowned for its diversity – whether in the businesses that operate from here, or in the sheer number of entertainment spots. In fact, St Julian’s has become one of the most popular business spots on the island, with a huge number of international firms choosing to utilise the excellent selection of commercial properties located here.

Life revolves around the St Julian’s promenade, which takes you all the way to St George’s Bay (the only sandy beach in the area) in one direction, and to Sliema in the other. The promenade is extremely popular with residents, whether for walking or jogging, or as a place to meet friends and stop for a coffee or a bite to eat. Plus, the coast below is ideal for swimming, with clean waters and small rocky bays dotted along it.

St Julian’s is also the island’s nightlife capital. Paceville, in particular, is the main clubbing destination, with bars and discotheques that stay open until the early hours of the morning. If that’s not your thing, then you may prefer the more refined atmosphere of Tiffany’s Champagne Bar at the Portomaso Marina, Chalice Bar and Lounge or the remarkable selection of cocktails and spirits at Level 22 of the Portomaso Tower.

Meanwhile, top-quality wining and dining is another well-loved aspect of life in St Julian’s. Many of the island’s best and most award-winning establishments are found here, including Dolce Vita and Zeri’s for Mediterranean cuisine, and Zest for fusion specialists.

The Properties

St Julian’s is one of the most densely populated parts of Malta and, as a result, high-rise developments provide much of the preferred accommodation. In fact, two of the island’s most in-demand Special Designated Areas and large-scale developments are found here, namely Portomaso and Pender Gardens. Both provide award-winning accommodation, often with beautiful sea views, large living spaces and pretty terraces.

While other large-scale developments are on the cards, there are other options, including smaller apartments blocks (some with sea views) and a number of traditional townhouses in the old village core. Property in this area is in very high demand, making it an excellent choice for those hoping to live in a popular part of the island or to secure an exceptional rental investment.
